Rich Wheeler – Station Manager, Program Director, DJ, and Web Designer

Rich is from Savannah, Georgia and lives within 5 miles of his immediate family, which includes two adorable great nieces. Rich’s daughters (cats count!) are Opal and Henrietta — more info about them below. 

Rich has a degree in General Technology/Teleproduction. He started out as a videographer, editor, and producer in Charlotte, NC, where he lived for over 17 years. In 2017, he moved to the Savannah area to be near his family. In 2018, he began producing the church broadcast for his then church home on WRUU, the community FM radio station. He was approached by WRUU staff and asked if he wanted to create a show to air. He had never thought of doing radio — he’s a behind-the-scenes guy — but the idea intrigued him, and he decided to take them up on the offer. 

Over the next few years, he produced several shows for the station with him as the host. It was a very fun experience. He migrated over to online radio platforms, including Amp, where he met Sharon, who he calls his “radio wife,” and they’ve been going strong ever since. After Amp was discontinued, they moved over to Stationhead, then Mixcloud, and now to 90s Plus Radio. 

Rich enjoys hosting shows but equally enjoys the nerdy programming side of the station. He also, with the help of AI, built this website. He loves the retro look. Keep up with him on Instagram @djrichwheeler.

Sharon Bowker – Assistant Station Manager, DJ, and Voice Over Artist

Sharon worked for 15 years as a radio news anchor and reporter before moving to Malmö, Sweden, as a “love immigrant” in 2002. But her passion for radio dates back to her early teens when she learned her high school had its own FM station. That experience led to a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and the launch of the aforementioned career in radio news.

Relocating abroad necessitated a move from journalism into corporate communications, but Sharon stayed connected to terrestrial radio by mentoring at Lund University’s student-run station. She met Rich Wheeler “virtually” when they were both hosting shows on an experimental platform that Amazon launched to promote its streaming music library, and the rest is history. They formed a fast friendship over their mutual love of radio and the GREATEST decade of pop music ever: The 1990s!

When not “corporate communicating,” hosting shows on 90s Plus Radio, or livestreaming on Mixcloud, Blast Radio and Twitch TV, Sharon tries to keep up with a pair of Godsons who have her wrapped around their little fingers to an embarrassing degree. Opal is Rich’s sweet grey tabby joined his family after a devastating loss of their big orange tabby, Shawna. To try to heal our broken heart, Rich made a trip to the shelter. He looked at several cats and found Opal (known at the time as Bunny) on top of a big cat house. Even at one year old, she was very small — We don’t think her previous owners were able to feed her properly. She wasn’t sick, just a little underweight. Rich brought her home, and now, almost a year later, she’s doing great and loves to eat Sheba cat pâté as well as some dry food too. She is a sweetheart and likes to stay close to him. You’ll hear Rich talk about his cats often on radio shows.

Henrietta is Rich’s big girl. He saw her available for adoption on a Facebook page a few years ago. Her foster family wasn’t far from his house. Rich was just going to “see her” and told himself he might not adopt her. Once he got to her foster house, Rich knew she was coming home with him. She’s not very affectionate like Opal, but she does like to be petted, and at night she’s usually curled up on the sofa next to his dad watching Hallmark movies. Henrietta and Opal tolerate each other, but we wouldn’t say they’re friends.
